THE LOCATION
Winterborne Stickland is surrounded by lovely rolling Dorset countryside, lying 4½ miles south west of Blandford Forum which has a selection of pubs and restaurants.
A short walk to Winterborne Houghton, along the Winterborne stream, rewards the walker with sights of kingfishers, voles, wagtails and egrets (recent settlers from France) and before going home fresh trout can be bought at the hatchery ponds.

Downstream you will pass the 600 year old Clenston Manor and its impressive tithe barns before arriving at the A354 Dorchester road and the entrance to Hardy Country.
The old market town of Shaftesbury (15 miles) and Sturminster Newton (9 miles) are easily accessible.
Fishing and shooting venues in season are nearby and we are at the edge of the Blackmore Vale and Cranbourne Chase country with its many riding and equestrian activities and for the archaeologist an abundance of barrows and forts.

Bournemouth, Poole, Swanage and Weymouth offer the sea and its attractions all within a 45 minute drive.
Athelhampton House is one of the finest 15th century houses in England, containing many magnificently furnished rooms. The gardens, dating from 1891, gain much from the fountains and River Piddle flowing through.
In 1710 Thomas Archer was commissioned to build the existing Chettle House. The house has no corners, all corners are rounded in common with the Archer style similar to those at the Church in Smith Square in London.

The Tank Museum in Dorset holds the world's best collection of tanks. From the first tank ever built to the modern Challenger II, the Museum houses examples from all over the world.
Minterne Gardens are laid out in a horseshoe below Minterne House, with a chain of small lakes, waterfalls and streams.
